FIRST NEWSLETTER FROM THE WEBSITE, April 2009.
Friends,
This is the first Gahanna Progressives message sent from our website. It is a newsletter format with no set frequency at this point.
You will be able to read all the newsletters on the website if you just create an account for yourself. It only requires an email address and a password to begin. The website is: http://gahannaprogressives.org.
The newsletters are beginning now due to the efforts of Stephen Renner to get our email addresses into the proper format for newsletters to be our main means of contacting members. Thanks, Stephen.
LINKS -
New links have been added to the website today for Ohio Majority Radio, the Ed Schultz show, the Stephanie Miller show and Chicago's Progressive Radio station, 820 AM. These are all ways you can listen to progressive radio via the internet for free. Until we once again have a local progressive radio station, these links may help keep you up on what liberal talk radio is addressing.
FUTURE MEETINGS -
Our next scheduled meeting is our PICNIC, Sunday, July 19 at Friendship Park Shelterhouse from 4 PM till 8 PM. Please mark your calendar now. Families and friends are invited. Further details on food, speakers, etc will be sent closer to the date.
ROAD CLEANING -
The next cleaning of Hamilton Rd will be in early June. Watch for the exact Saturday date in upcoming messages. We need a few more people to make the task go really fast by allowing us to divide the one mile stretch into thirds with teams on each side of the road. Gloves, trash bags and reflective vests are provided. Come join us for a few laughs and an easy walk while doing a good deed for our town.
THIRD ANNIVERSARY PARTY -
On Sunday, April 19, we celebrated the third anniversary of the existence of Gahanna Progressives. There was lots of good food and conversation. If you missed it, you missed some fun. Hope we will see you at the next one. Pictures of the event will be on the website.
RECYCLING LOCALLY UPDATE -Our friends Nancy Williams and Sharon Montgomery have learned some details of recycling in Gahanna that you might not know. Here is the info in their words.
Nancy:
I was looking online to see if there were answers to my frequent questions about what they will/won't take for recycling. It turns out Rumpke will take much more than what's specifically mentioned in the mailers the City sends to our homes. I decided to share what's on the Gahanna website. [which has a link on the GP site]
Recycling
All households have been provided with two recycling bins, one with a lid for light weight items that might blow away. The City is not responsible for lost or misplaced recycling bins. It is advisable to label the bottom of your bins with your street address.
The following list contains items that can be recycled. Items to be recycled can be mixed together in the same bin(s) but should not be placed in plastic bags as they may be mistaken for trash.
Paper and Cardboard items
Newspapers, glossy ad inserts, magazines, catalogs, telephone books, paperboard (cereal and snack boxes), junk mail, soft drink and beer cartons should be placed together in brown paper grocery sacks. Place sack(s) inside or beside your bin, or in case of rain, place under the bin. Corrugated cardboard can also be placed in the bin.
Glass
Clear, brown, green and blue glass food and beverage containers and jars are accepted. Please remove caps and rinse; paper labels do not need to be removed.
Beverage & Steel Food Cans
Aluminum and bi-metal beverage cans, steel soup and food cans and empty aerosol cans are accepted. Please rinse and drain; cans may be crushed to conserve space in your bin.
Plastics
Plastic items marked 1 thru 7 can be recycled. Please remove all caps or lids and rinse; items may be crushed to conserve space in your bin. Also includes gable-top and aseptic cartons.
Aluminum Cans
Aluminum, steel and bi-metal food and beverage cans.
Sharon:
All bulk items except those with coolant can simply be placed at the curb with your regular trash. No special arrangements are needed, unlike in Columbus.
