Day of Service Jan. 19th and beyond

folks,

we don't have an event planned for the GP group for the national day of service Pres. Obama suggested for Jan. 19th. [which is also MLKjr day, so many folks have it off work]

but one of our progressive friends in the Licking County group, Grace Cherrington, provided some information that each of us can use on the 19th or other days to extend our support for our community at large. below is her info.
The usaservice.org site lists activities that will take place in our area on the 19th. you can pick from one of them if you'd like or decide on something of your own. One of our members mentioned she'd like to get her daughter into helping at a senior home. There are lots of options and one or more is bound to fit your schedule.

If you want to share what project you helped with on the 19th, go to our website, create a blog and tell everyone about it.

FINAL REPORT ON OUR GRIN [GAHANNA RESIDENTS IN NEED] 2008 EFFORT

Progressive Friends,

You made a wonderful giving effort to provide a good Christmas for the family we adopted for Dec 2008. This was our first try at adopting a Gahanna Residents In Need family and it was a great success.

Through your generosity, we gave the family a Kroger gift card worth $145.00 and a box of oranges. Besides a holiday dinner, that will help with January meals.

The 2 boys, Herbert and Taj, received the 2 toys each of them hoped for and some books. They also got a pair of jeans each, a couple shirts and a hat for each boy.

Nancy Williams took a picture of the accumulated gifts right before Sharon Montgomery and Brenda Lindenmayer picked them up to take to the family. It will be found among pictures on the website soon.

As we discussed in early 2008, we are adopting a family in Gahanna for the Christmas holiday through the GRIN [Gahanna Residents In Need] program.

Our adoptee family is a mom and her 2 sons, ages 8 and 12. Using the GRIN guidelines, I spoke with the mom by phone. For our holiday dinner gift, she selected the option of a grocery gift card she can use.

Folks,

I have definite commitments from 5 individuals to clean our mile of Hamilton Rd this coming Saturday morning, Dec.6. To make it go quickly, we need about 4 more. Remember you can bring your big kids or spouse or friend with you. It takes about an hour and we do it with teams of 2 or more taking a portion of the mile. We'll meet at the lower front parking lot of Peace Lutheran Church on Clark State Rd. at 10 AM.

Come join us for some laughs and light exercise.

Email or call me to say you'll be there.

As for Gahanna Progressives, we will resume our meetings with Tuesday, Nov. 11, 7 PM at the Gahanna Library meeting room. That is Veterans Day. I checked and the library will be open. The plan is for a general discussion of our campaign experiences. Whether you volunteered with a specific campaign or spent time convincing friends and family on how to vote or had an interesting experience, come share!
